News for Immediate Release:
Tidelands Health is launching a free community walking program at Brookgreen Gardens to help people take steps toward better health.
Walk With a Doc helps inspire movement, conversation and connection in the community. Led by a Tidelands Health physician or clinician, the monthly event will include a brief presentation on a timely health topic, followed by a group walk around Brookgreen Gardens.
The first Walk With a Doc is set for Saturday, Sept. 27.
“Walk With a Doc provides a unique opportunity for community members to learn directly from our Tidelands Health experts while enjoying a nice stroll around beautiful Brookgreen Gardens,” said Kelly Thompkins, senior director of community health resources at Tidelands Health. “The laid-back format is fun, engaging and helps connect community members with our care team members and each other.”
First Walk With a Doc set for Sept. 27
Walk With a Doc will kick off Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m.
Dr. Lucretia Carter, pediatric medical director at Tidelands Health, will lead a presentation about safe sleep for infants and children.
Pre-registration is required, and participation is limited to 50 people for each event. Sign up for the free event at tidelandshealth.org.
Walking for your health
Walk With a Doc is one of several programs offered by Tidelands Health encouraging better health through walking.
Regular walking provides numerous physical and mental benefits including improved cardiovascular health and increased bone density, while helping manage your weight, improve sleep quality, strengthen muscles and reduce stress.
Tidelands Health also partners with Brookgreen Gardens to offer A Walk in the Garden, which encourages qualifying patients to improve their health through a prescription for walking at the attraction.
“Walking is the best way to take in all the beauty at Brookgreen Gardens, so it’s a natural fit for us to partner with Tidelands Health on these innovative walking programs. We hope our ever-changing landscape will offer extra incentive for people to get active by participating in Walk With a Doc every month. And for those who want to experience Brookgreen more often, becoming a member is a wonderful way to enjoy all we have to offer year-round,” said Page Kiniry, president and CEO of Brookgreen Gardens.
